Well, today wasn't a huge day, but it was the funnest one I've had yet on this trip. Continuing south from Golden, the loose agenda was to find some gas and some coffee (in whichever order), find a data connection to permit a brain-dump blog catchup, and wander the length of the Columbia Valley south, trying to avoid the highway as much as possible. Gas was found in Parson, then a good cappuccino in Spillimacheen, where I also parked my butt at a picnic table and caught up on some photos and notes. |
In Invermere, I dropped in on an old work friend who refueled me with sandwiches and cookies and a dog fix. (Thanks L & Molly!) I then continued down Westside Road to the south of Invermere, although now it was paved and paralleling an also-paved bike trail all the way to its terminus at Fairmont. Back at the main highway, I contemplated chasing another forestry road down the east side of the valley, but instead listened to the little voice of wisdom suggesting that solo forestry roads are good morning projects, and not projects to be started at 4pm when less time, daylight, and energy are available to deal with anything unexpected. So, I pounded the pavement through fairly light traffic down to Kimberley, where I'm well-positioned for a morning crossing of Gray Creek Pass to the west and -- eek -- a ferry ride, at last.
