I know where I am, but I don't know how I got here. Such is the ignorant bliss of guided travel. You just follow the leader. And a few construction zones later, here we were, pulling into the next hotel parkade, and being delivered our suitcases and backpacks from the support vehicle. This is (by far) the shortest trip that Compass runs -- with most being 3- to 6-week expedition tours spanning multiple countries, after which "you go home completely destroyed" -- and so far my impression is in total alignment with the hint from one of the crew as we got ready to start the trip yesterday: This particular itinerary isn't really motorcycle travel, but instead like a guided foreign vacation on which you just happen to go for a little ride every day. Still, the added complications and uncertainty of any foreign overland travel keep it interesting and engaging in its own way. |
