Today was Day 2 of 2 of pavement-pounding to get Badger into temporary storage south of the impending snowline. I got a good start out of Peace River, rolling at a quarter past eight, filled up with some 94 octane at the PetroCan, and killed half of that tank before my pre-researched breakfast target at Traveller's restaurant in the Valleyview Esso station. Those were 200 km when the GPS data field heading was effectively "Distance to Eggs." I fueled up with french toast, eggs, and coffee, and a smattering of small talk with locals in their local diner for Sunday brunch. Valleyview is still far enough north in Alberta that it seems everybody has some sort of link to the NWT -- a past trip, a past job, or a nephew. |
The weather today was better than advertised. My biceps turned from light grey to dark grey with a bit of highway mist, but there was no soaking today, no saturation, and for the last few hours it was a downright balmy +11 C with the odd patch of blue sky in sight. I rolled into Cochrane on time, unplugged my pants, and was subsequently spoiled by family.
Also, after eight years of ownership, I discovered tonight that my Macbook Pro has a built-in SD card reader... immediately beside the very USB port into which I have always plugged in a USB SD card reader containing an SD card -- until going to do so tonight and discovering that I'd separated myself from said card reader in Sunday night's second luggage fail. (First one: Bathroom bag.)
Catch you in a few weeks when the rural alien-hunting resumes.
