Back into solo wandering mode. And it took a bit of getting used to! Overall, today I found myself spinning my wheels a bit mentally, unconsciously taking more time than necessary to do menial tasks. (Yes, even moreseo than usual...) I'm not sure whether it was just making up for lost time after the last six days of not riding alone, or some deeper bucking against accepting 'the beginning of the end' of NWT2NWT. (Editor's note: "Making up for lost time" is actually the complete opposite of what it would be. Correctly, it would be "Making up for NOT-lost time," as in "Catching up on wasted time that I haven't yet had the opportunity to waste.") I had a leisurely morning in Skagway, fighting with memory cards and WiFi, and checked out with time to spare at 10:58 am. After a final parade lap up Broadway, I had the joy of re-riding the South Klondike highway in all its splendor. Back into Whitehorse, I dropped back into Yukon Honda to have a pair of fresh tires mounted. All good, no issues. |
I decided to knock a couple hours off of the return trip home, positioning myself well to do the return run in three days starting from tomorrow, so booked the last available room at the surprisingly well-kept Nisutlin Trading Post (gas, general store, motel upstairs in the back) in Teslin. While riding, I wished that I'd instead eaten the penalty of a few extra hours and gone down to check out Atlin for the night.
