The first half of today's ride was a northward backtrack from the island of Chiloe to the ferry crossing, then cruising 4-lane Panamerican Highway north past Puerto Montt (with another man-and-machine pit stop at the lush gas station), and diverting into Fruitilla for a stretch. We then took a nice little gravel road through lakeside farmland which dumped us out at the most unexpected feast of deliciousness imaginable (which was not on the itinerary). The ride leader said he almost crashed when he smelt the place, because it smelled so good filling his face at 80 km/h that he just grabbed brakes.
The day finished with some nice pavement winding into Entre Lagos for the night. It's almost 9:00pm, and everybody's still full and happy from lunch. Tomorrow will be a good one as we head east into the Andes, and I'm looking forward to our first border crossing which should be both exciting and educational.
